For heaven's sakes just block the number everyone! The number is being spoofed. DON'T BOTHER RETURNING THE CALL OR SMSING BACK. YOU WILL JUST BE WASTING YOUR AIRTIME. THE PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING THE CALLS, ARE NOT ACTUALLY CALLING FROM THAT NUMBER. For more explanation see my other comments...

I am concerned that this number may be used by State Security to activate spyware to allow them to listen in on other conversations. Are others receiving calls from this number involved in social justice activism?

This is my spare sim card that I don't use on a day to day basis. I only realised the number is being spoofed when I put the sim in a spare old phone the other day and literally got hundreds of texts from angry people asking why I keep phoning them. Anyway I have cancelled this sim with Vodacom's call centre now (reported as stolen) and hopefully I've done the responsible thing. You can learn more about caller ID spoofing by googling the term. I also suggest that you just block the number if you have IOS or Android. Someone must be spoofing my number on their own calls for nefarious reasons. Perhaps this is a telemarketer who wants a 'normal' looking cellphone number to come on the caller ID. I would like to apologise to all the people who have had nuisance calls, but as I say this is not my fault as I don't know how they got the number to hijack it as I didn't give it to anyone. I only got this sim card because the shops force you to get another prepaid sim when you buy a cellphone for cash. Unfortunately it would appear that Vodacom allocated this number (which is probably recycled to this sim). The last person to own the number probably cancelled it for a similar reason! I am a pensioner so unfortunately I don't have hundreds of spare Rands to reply to all the angry SMS's to explain to people the situation unfortunately. I have been receiving calls from this number for 2 weeks now, the person hangs up when i answer and it goes straight to voicemail when i call the number. I've blocked it on my cellphone but it's harassing me on my work phone now. I don't want to go through the whole effort of getting a new number as well
