   15/02/2023 from Number 060 711 8563 our NGOreceived a call from a Dr Hennie Botha from Suiwelspoort Farm, 27.3km from the Stutterheim circle, East London wanting to urgently donate a whole bunch of already packed meat. And the meat must be collected ASAP. He only wanted to speak to someone Afrikaans and was put through to the Charity Shop.
   
   We phoned him back, I guess it sounded legit because he sounded like an older Afrikaans Oom who was really sweet and keen to help. (And the meat would have been enough for all our fundraising events)
   
   We were almost out of town, when he phoned and asked if we please cannot also buy him 5 x R275 airtime vouchers for his truckers, who are lined and ready to go. He does not want to give them the cash because warra warra warra. We discussed the strange ask for someone to make, and that it feels odd. SBut reflected on an older farmer we used to work with in Beaufort West who was also so antiquated in old ways and only worked with cash.
   
   So, we squashed the alarm bells and proceeded. Fortunately, month end is near and our personal accounts are depleted, so we only bought 3 x 275 vouchers. From the time of leaving the office, whilst driving, and then buying the airtime, “Oom Hennie” phoned so many times sounding rushed, but sweet and in a panic because the trucks must go, so please “just give me the airtime pins so long so that my guys can go. I will give you the cash for the 3 when you arrive, and for the other two which you are to please buy on your way back into town again, and to sms the codes to me.”
   
   Again we overrode our doubt and gave him the numbers and started the 27.3 km drive to the farm. My colleague phoned him back to say we are close, trusting we will find the sign. He would not answer any of the calls from her phone. We kept driving. At 30km we pulled over again. We started googling his name, farm address etc etc………………and what came up was a scam that ran in Gauteng that sounded just like Oom Hennie, but he was called Oom Frikkie in GP.
   
   I tried phoning Oom Hennie from my cell phone, a number new to him. He answered. I said we are the Hospice ladies and we could not find the place and are now parked at Smiling Valley, to which her replied “I know the place my girl just wait there I will come and fetch you.” We did not wait long as it was clear we have been taken for fools.
   
   We have done some searching and this man has been running this scam for years across all of South Africa.

   Person with name Dr Jannie Pretorius phones for urgent services and will pay immediately cash etc..
   
   Phones and asks for 4xR275 tickets from vodacom...
   
   When refused he gets aggressive..
   
   Also tells you to drive to him north of Pretoria..
   
   Not sure what the final plan is if just to get the 4x tickets pin nos or if you actually will arrive anywhere......
   
   Tells you exactly how to drive etc but this guy is actually a huge scammer

   NOTED. HE HAS GOT SO MANY NAMES AND CELL NUMBERS. HE ALWAYS USES OLD CELL NO. WHEN IT IS GETTING TO HOT FOR HIM. I AM ON HIS CASE AND WILL INFORM IF I GOT HIM.

   He is at it again. Same modus operandi and bad manners. Not very clever as he merely changes his name to Kallie Viljoen who wants to donate his meat to you and then as an afterthought asks you to buy Vodacom ans Mtn cards. Uses 064 826 8750 and farm has now moved to 17.3km outside Sasolburg. All he is interested in are the 14 digit nrs on the cards. I gave hi 2 sets of 14nrs that I sucked out of my thumb before telling him to buggeroff

   Called with a request for lots of building repairs and will pay cash.. he then asked for 3 vodacom 270 airtime and pins...lied about everything else for working on his farm..
