I had a similar experience. They wanted me to provide my personal details. When I refused the lady put down the phone. They have been calling incessantly and sending me sms'es saying that I owe an amount on my credit card with Standard Bank. I do not even own a Standard Bank credit card. Very suspicious.

This caller has been calling me for some days now numerous times a day. i eventually today answered. Total scam. This person wanted to verify my id number and address. When i refused saying it's personal information the person, a female voice, started to get very cheeky. Beware. This is how hackers obtain personal information.

Got a call pretending to be from my bank regarding my credit card, they wanted me to verify my personal information. I refused and called my bank's customer care line, who said that there were no indicators on my account warranting a call and that they didn't recognize the number.

Caller phoned my dad and asked my dad to indicate when they will pay the shortfall on the vehicle he bought from standard bank. this looked suspicious since my dad didn't buy the car from this number 011 933 1421 but standard.
My Dad indicated that the caller must provide the letter and also an email, but the caller hang up and when trying to trace the number the number is always busy.
